Inside Season 2: a long talk with Embark's lead designer

What changed, what didn't, and the one decision Embark almost reversed at the last minute. We sat down with lead designer Mariana Salt for an hour to find out.
The Pyro nerf landed quietly on Tuesday, but the conversation about it didn't. By Friday, three of the top five threads on r/ArcRaiders were arguing about whether the change went far enough - and whether the developers had finally listened, or just gotten lucky.
Mariana Salt knows the drill. "We watch Reddit," she told me, with the practiced calm of someone who has answered this exact question many times. "Of course we do. But we don't chase Reddit."
What actually shipped
The headline change in 2.1.4 is straightforward: Pyro spawn rate dropped 40%, and the radius on its tick damage shrank from 4.2 meters to 3.4. Less obvious, but more consequential to the meta:

The most interesting moment in our conversation came when I asked about the audio rebalance - a change so small most players didn't notice it. Salt paused for a long second.
"That one almost didn't happen," she said. "Forty-eight hours before the build locked, the audio team came to us with a plot of player movement vs. detection rates."

By the end of the hour, I had the impression of a team that knows it's standing on a cliff - and is choosing, deliberately, to stay there a little longer.
